What we treat · Clifton, NJ

    Dark spots & uneven tone

More even tone. Less to cover.

When dark marks linger long after a breakout or a summer in the sun, the right care can make a difference. We help you understand the pigment you see and build a plan for a more even-looking complexion.

Understanding dark spots & uneven tone

Dark spots is a description, not a diagnosis. Marks after acne, sun-related changes and melasma can have different causes and treatment needs. Identifying the concern helps avoid choosing a procedure that may not suit it.

The cause comes before the treatment

Tell Dr. Patel when the marks appeared, whether they change, and what you have tried. Your skin tone, products, sun exposure and previous reactions are relevant. A new or changing spot may need medical assessment before any cosmetic treatment.

Melasma deserves a separate conversation within uneven tone. It can persist or return, and a procedure may be only one part of a plan that also includes daily care. Stronger treatment is not automatically the right next step.

    Think beyond the appointment

Discuss how to care for your skin between visits and what might trigger another change in pigment. Ask when to review progress and whether the plan needs adjustment.

Laser is an option to discuss, not a default for every dark spot. We will help you compare the proposed approach with alternatives, including whether an assessment by a dermatologist is the appropriate first step.

    Options to discuss

    Find the approach that fits.

Dr. Patel will help you choose the right approach and explain the treatment, recovery and full cost.

    Questions worth asking

Are dark spots the same as acne scars?

Flat discoloration after a breakout is different from a depressed or raised scar, although both can be present. We discuss color and texture separately so the plan addresses what you actually notice.

    Can laser cure melasma?

A cure should not be promised. Melasma can recur, and treatment choice needs care. Discuss whether a procedure is appropriate and how it fits into longer-term management.

    Could treatment make pigmentation worse?

Pigment changes are a possible risk of procedures, particularly if the treatment is unsuitable or the skin reacts. Your history and skin tone should be part of the decision, along with preparation and aftercare.

Can you quote the total price before seeing my skin?

We publish treatment prices, but a total for pigmentation care needs an assessment of the concern and the proposed visits. Your consultation is free; ask for the full plan and cost before choosing treatment.
